Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (16 oz) kidney beans, undrained
  • 1 can (16 oz) pinto beans, undrained
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

Directions

1. Cook the Beef:

  • In a large skillet, cook 2 pounds of ground beef over medium-high heat until fully browned. Drain any excess fat.

2. Sauté Vegetables:

  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the cooked beef, 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped green bell pepper, and 2 minced garlic cloves. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.

3. Combine Ingredients:

  • Add the following to the pot:
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes (with juices)
  • 1 can kidney beans (with liquid)
  • 1 can pinto beans (with liquid)
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • Stir to mix everything together.

4. Season the Chili:

  • Add these spices to the mixture:
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for desired heat level)
  • Stir to evenly distribute the seasonings.

5. Simmer:

  • Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally to allow the flavors to meld together.

6. Adjust and Serve:

  • Taste the chili and adjust the cayenne pepper or other seasonings to your preference.
  • Serve hot, garnished with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese, chopped onions, or sour cream.
