Smothered Hamburger Steak

A comforting classic featuring juicy hamburger patties smothered in a rich beef gravy with mushrooms. Perfect for a hearty meal paired with mashed potatoes or a fresh salad.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 tbsp beef bouillon powder
- 3 slices white bread, torn into pieces
- 1 can cream of onion soup
- 1 can water
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 large eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Meat Mixture:
- In a bowl, mix together eggs, chopped onion, beef bouillon powder, salt, and pepper.
- Soak the torn bread pieces in the mixture, then combine with the ground beef, kneading well.
- Form and Cook Patties:
- Shape the meat mixture into 8 patties.
- Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Make the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, combine cream of onion soup, water, and Worcestershire sauce. Heat until well mixed.
- Return the patties to the skillet, coating them in the gravy. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Storage:
- Refrigeration: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
- Freezing: Cool completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, or place in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Reheating:
- Oven: Reheat covered with foil at 325°F for 15-20 minutes.
- Microwave: Heat individual servings until warmed through.
